Description

This highly distinctive species, with its pied appearance, is locally widespread in wooded areas over England and Wales.

   

Life Cycle

It flies at night in July and August, and comes to light.Larva feeds on the foliage of Field Maple, living beneath a silken web.The larvae feed mostly on species of Acer, particularly field maple (A. campestre)
 

Habitat

Common in woodland and urban areas, especially where Field Maple is planted,
