Description

An attractive species, with its combination of bright orange, white and silvery-grey patches. The larvae mine the leaves of various species of willowherb (Epilobium), during April and May, then again in July and August. The mine is a whitish blotch with scattered blackish frass.

Could be confused with M. terminella, but larger and brighter, and with cilia unicolorous.

   

Life Cycle

The two generations of adult moths are on the wing from May to July and again in August and September. The larvae mine the leaves of various species of willowherb (Epilobium), during April and May, then again in July and August. The mine is a whitish blotch with scattered blackish frass.

 

Habitat

Damp situations.
