Perennial of dry grassland on calcareous soils. Locally common only in England and Wales. Stems red and hairy. Leaves broad lanceolate Oval lower leaves resemble those of foxglove; stem leaves narrower. Flowerheads dull yellow with no or obscure rays, and puplish sepal like bracts in a flat topped umbel like structure,. Rayless, yellow flower heads are borne in clusters, July to September. Open woods, scrub , dry grassy places on lime . Height up to 1m
