Data Table

Widespread and rather common downy annual of short grassland and waste places. Leaves are trifoliate, each leaflet bearing a point at the centre of its apex. Dense, rounded heads of yellow flowers appear April to October. Ripe pods black. Height up to 20cm.

Black Medick looks very similar to the following plants .

Lesser Trefoil (Trifolium dubium) has a notched indent in each of its 3 leaves as opposed to a spike and Hop Trefoil has a stalk longer than the two other of its 3 leaves and fruits which are brown scale lioke opposed to black.
