Description

Attractive downy perennial of coastal wetlands, Resembling a hollyhock pale pink flowers have a slight veining of darker purple Flowering July to September and yielding furry fruits. A tall plant of Height up to 2m often found on upper reaches of saltmarshes. The leaves are triangular and slightly lobed.

Habitat

This is a plant of coastal salt marshes, mainly in the Sw of the UKLocally common on S coasts of Britain and Ireland.

Dependent Ecology

The Marsh Mallow Moth, Hydraecia osseola hucherardi also known as the Giant Ear, wjose larvae feed on this plant
