Family Arum

Description

Perennial of woods and hedgerows. Locally common S Britain and S Ireland; scarce further N. Leaves arrow-shaped and shiny, sometimes purple-spotted. Flowers with purple, rod-like spadix shrouded by cowl-like spathe; April to May. Berries red. Height up to 50cm.
