Apocynaceae (Periwinkle family)

This is a low evergreen perennial sub-shrub with slender trailing stems of up to 60 cm, in woods and hedgerows. Widespread and possibly native in S England but undoubtedly naturalised elsewhere. Evergreen leaves are leathery and oval. The 5-lobed flowers are bluish violet and 25 to 30mm across; appear February to May. Height up to 20cm which tends to matt itself together.
