A branched Woolly perennial of damp meadows and ditches, mostly on heavy soils. Widespread and common in C and S Britain and Ireland. Basal leaves soon wither; stem leaves heart-shaped and clasping. Flower heads, 15 -30mm across,Ray florets short, disc florets occupy approx half of flowerhead diameter. appear July­September. Leaves Upper leaves heart-shaped at base, clasping stem. Leaves have insecticidal properties downy, with a felty feel. Height up to 50cm
