Perennial of damp grassland, woodland rides and marshes. Widespread and common throughout. Basal leaves are spoon-shaped; those on stem are narrow. Blue-purple flowers are borne in rounded heads, 15 - 25 mm across, and appear June - October but can be less commonly White in form. Height up to 75 cm. Meadows , pastures, marshes, fens and damp woods on slightly acid or calcareous soils.
