Branched, hairy perennial, smelling of mint. Locally common in dry grassland, mostly on calcareous soil, in S England, Wales and S Ireland. Rounded leaves are long-stalked. Whorls of pink-lilac flowers spotted 10 -15 mm borne in leaf axils, Dry grassy places on lime. June to September. Height up to 50cm
