Size

DescriptionA medium-sized, fairly robust damselfly, and the only red damselfly in our county.The black legs and red stripes on the thorax separate it from the less common Small Red. They can usually be seen from April to August. Females have broader abdomen than males, and more extensive black, with yellow bands 'between' abdominal segments. Some females are almost entirely black on the upper surface of the abdomen (form melanotum) There are three forms of female showing varying amounts of black on the abdomen.
