Description

This fish has two Dorsal Fins. Colour varies from dark greenish brown to silver . Thee is however always Dark Spots usually red , on their back and flanks. It is larger than the Freshwater or Brown Trout. The tail is scarcely forked with a thick base

The introduced Rainbow Trout ( Salmo gairdneri) a North American Introduction is more commonly encountered in cultured situations or Sports Fisheries 20 " ( 50 cm ) . The Rainbow has spots absent and a purple irredescent stripe on older fish

Below are two specimens of Trout caught in the River Calder 27th March 2008. The second weighed just under 3 lbs
