Size

To 3" - 4 " (75 - 100 mm) usually smaller

Description

Fish with one Dorsal fin. greenish - gold on top with dark blotched tripes down its flank Underside is white or Yellow. Has a Blunt snout with its mouth turned down. The Minnow is the smallest member of the Carp family in Britain. Often observed darting in compact shoals.

Clear cool shallows of upper reaches indicatiors of well oxygenated waters

Reproduction

When spawning come summer the males belly reddens.
