Phenology

It can be seen from May to October with a peak in late June and July.

Identification

Has golden hair on the bottom of its abdomen and often a further golden band above this.

Xylota spp. are generally honeydew feeders and characteristically swing back and forth rather like a hoover as they travel over the surface of leaves in a ritualistic pattern .

Life Cycle

Larvae found in wet decaying roots of Beech stumps, but where Beech is not present Oak and Birch are considered possible alternatives

Habitat Woodland and well wooded areas.
