Identification Large and notable hoverfly with pairs of upward curving creamy-white bars. Known as the Pied Hoverfly.

Life Cycle

It is thought winter survival populations are poor and migration plays a major part in boosting population from mainland Europe.

Habitat Gardens, wasteland and meadows.
