Phenology It is found from April to November, peaking in August.

Identification A small, narrow built hoverfly of creamy-white spots in pairs. Identofication should be with Caution due to similars.

Life Cycle It breeds on umbellifers where larvae predate aphids - aphidophagous - with preference for Cavariella aphids on white umbells.

Habitat Any damp aspect hedgreow or meadow supporting the associated umbelifer near woodland margins , supporting flowers of Heracleum and Angelica
