Adonis Blue (Lysandra bellargus)

Wing Span 1 1/4 " ( 32 mm).

The males have the brightes colour of most of the English Blues. The most reliable key to identifying this species is the alternate black and white bars to the edge of all wings These are seen on the Brown female.

Habitat

The Butterfly is confined to Chalky areas where it is limitted to its food plant the Horse Shoe Vetch. Adonis Blues congregate in suitable places preferring grassland slopes . As with many Blues the caterpillar is " Milked " by ants
