Description

Medium sized pale owl. Has a heart shaped face, lacking feather ears , with Black eyes. Its plumage has buff back and wings with golden spots and pure white under parts the barn owl . , this species has declined due to loss of prey-rich habitats as a result of intensive agricultural practices. populations may now be increasing.

 

Where does it live?

Varied Open country, especially farmland with barns, and coastal marshland

Where to see it

Open country, along field edges, riverbanks and roadside verges.

What does it eat?

Mice, voles and shrews

What does it sound like?

Screeching, wheezing and gurgling.

When to see it

All year round; hunts at night but may do so during the day in winter , but best at dusk.
